Dec 10, 2012 : Lavita Lobo from Mangalore won the “Best Singer Female-2011” for her song Ye Raja from the album Xetam Merer. The award was announced at the fourth Global Konkani Music Awards Ceremony held in the city on Sunday.

The event, held at Kalaangann in the city was organised by Mandd Sobhann, a Konkani cultural organisation, to recognise, encourage, and honour talent in Konkani music across the world.

The “Best Singer Male-2011” was awarded to Butto from Bangalore. He said he was happy that the Konkani-speaking community had recognised that he could sing in the language. He thanked the team he worked with for helping with the pronunciation of Konkani words. He said he would speak Konkani if he won the award for 2012 next year.

Roshan D'Souza from Angelore bagged the “Best Music Composer” award.

The “Best Lyricist” award was given to (Late) Chafra D'Costa. The “Best Music Arranger” award was given to Cajetan Dias from Bangalore. The “Best Music Album" award was bagged by Ivan Lobo and team from Mangalore for the album, Xetam Merer.

While Guru Kiran, Kannada music director, singer, and actor, was chief guest, Armando Gonsalves, founder and CEO, Heritage Jazz, Goa, was guest of honour.

Ranni and Rai Kogull and Queenie Fernandes and Akash Telgu from Goa sang while teams from “Nach Sobhann” presented dances.
